Situated
in the northern part of Romania, the county of Bistrita-Nasaud has a
total area of 5355 square km.
The
relief is generally high and fragmented, the Rodnei, Birgaului,
Calimanilor and Tiblesului Mountains show their ridges in our county.
Although
only a part of the Rodnei Mountains lie within the territory of the
county, its’ beauty creates a wonderful scenery. The glaciers of
the quaternary Age have left traces, creating sharp ridges and
glacier basins sheltering lakes of the same origin, with clear waters
of unequaled beauty (Lala, Buhaescu). An extremely picturesque
scenery is revealed in the Birgaului Mountains, through the presence
of volcanic hillocks, through the rich forests and wildlife.
